1. NFP. "Employers cut jobs in July, and job growth was revised down for May and June. Net result is that the pop in hiring that we saw earlier this year now seems to have largely evaporated. We've now averaged just +20,000 jobs/month over the past three months."
2. Gold rally. Gold just posted its best week since January.
3. SPX vs. VIX. "This is as good a time as any to remind everyone that VIX actually does a pretty damn good job of pricing in the next month or so of volatility. Here are the median forward returns and draw downs over the next month based on where VIX has been, since data began in 1990."
4. Q2 growth. With 88% of the S&P 500 reported, Q2 top line growth is on pace for the largest YoY increase since Q4'21. All eleven sectors are enjoying YoY growth.
5. Netscape analog. "Looking at the Netscape vs. ChatGPT analogy, the S&P 500 $SPX and Nasdaq 100 $NDX have a long way to go."
